Woking

At the beginning of 2012 the Woking class was been handed on from Grant Ford to Mat Healey (pictured right).

Mat has been training since 2004 and also began his martial arts journey with Karate.  He trains 5 times a week under Sifu Chan and Instructor Ben Knight, he has also trained under Kev Humphries and Chris Caine.  He has also begun training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Kevin Chan.

In 2013 Alastair Hargrave (pictured right) joined Mat instructing the Woking class.  Alastair’s journey began in 2000 when Alastair and his friends were involved in a violent incident at the Glastonbury music festival. He found the attack to be shocking, so too was the realisation that he was ill equipped in any way to deal with the situation. A university friend recommended the Wing Chun system for its efficiency and devastating effectiveness. The attack at Glastonbury was the motivation Alastair needed to try out Wing Chun. After some research he found Kamon and began to train under SiHing Chris Caine.

Alastair trains regularly and was awarded Brown 1 status in Summer 2013. He finds the Kamon system to be engaging, flexible and adaptive to better ways of doing things. He has been a private student of Master Chan for some years now, and has seen the system progress over the 13 years he has been training. He feels the underlying system strengthens applications in the modern fight setting. There are always new things to discover built solidly on a core foundation in the traditional skills.

The Woking class caters for all abilities and the complete Wing Chun system is taught in a relaxed, friendly environment. Students are given a firm foundation in the fundamental structures, techniques and principals of Wing Chun, before being given the opportunity to test their skills in a variety of situations.  Because both Alastair and Mat train regularly with Sifu Chan, new concepts and ideas are constantly being introduced, ensuring that the classes remain fresh and exciting and that the students continue to grow and develop as martial artists.

The Woking class is a relaxed class with a good mix of abilities.   The class runs on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings and new students, whether complete beginners or with previous experience of any style, are always welcome. Simply turn up to watch a class, or wear comfortable training clothes and bring class fees to commence training straight away.

Fees are £12 for a single session, or monthly fees of £48 which allows you to train at multiple classes in the area.
