Roy is Kamon’s most senior and experienced instructor . He began Wing Chun training when Bruce Lee was still alive! (1972). In 1980 Roy started training with Simon Lau at St. Bede’s Hall, NW1, which was featured in the early 80s documentary ‘Way of the Warrior’. He taught under Simon Lau until 1990 when he joined Steve Mair and this was where he met Kevin Chan.
When Steve Mair handed his classes to Kevin Chan, Roy continued to train with Kevin. It was at this time that the pair developed a mutual respect for one another which developed into a long standing friendship. Roy joined Kevin in the Sam Kwok Wing Chun Association in 1991. Roy enjoyed several ‘closed door’ private training sessions with Sam in Blackpool. Roy and Kevin both gained their life membership of the Yip Man Martial Arts Association in 1992. Since then Roy has continued with Kamon and has also practised Sombo and gained his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu blue belt in 2003 from Mauricio Gomes. He continues to enjoy and practice Kamon Wing Chun regularly at Sifu’s classes in Croydon.
Roy has a very humble and reserved personality that does not reflect his extensive skill set. His depth of understanding of classical Wing Chun is unsurpassed and he enthusiastically takes on board new concepts and ideas, dedicatedly passing these on to his students. Kamon is privileged to have him as a teacher and an ambassador.
